Paying The Iron Price Informational Charter
A brief history of our alliance.
The majority of us started together in Direwolves of the Wolfswood. It was a major sized alliance with easy entrance. We found it increasingly difficult to compete in alliance versus alliance phases. We tried to clear out inactive members, and several other things. We found it impossible to make serious headway. Some of us took to our forums, and brainstormed ideas. We talked about things needing to change or possibly moving on to something different. I stress that this was all discussion. The reason I point that out is because when the debate came to the leader of DoW’s attention, he kicked the majority of us out. Colwynn Snow, and Samira Kane were talking the entire time when people were getting removed, and established Paying the Iron Price as a home for those of us that were cast off.
Alex Rexiborn established our forum, and we continued to fill our ranks. We set a tier one cap limit, and finished off the remainder of our broken phase.
In our first competitive phase we rallied under our new banner to make a name for ourselves. Through hard work and dedication, we pulled off the Peacemaker award in the Faith cycle.
We decided to take the next phase off for reincarnating and leveling.
In our next competitive phase we decided to work in the reach again. This phase was different, because toward the end of it we were asked if we could contribute mercenaries to help Holy R’hllors win overall. Zayne Sylvane and Alex Rexiborn went as representatives and got phase victor rewards, while the rest of us continued to push on and achieved the Helping Hands award.
In our five cycles as an alliance, we have competed very solidly for a strict tier one alliance when we are in an on phase. We continue to work together and enjoy the game, and look to bring some fresh faces into our small, but strong, alliance we call home.

Policies
We have a strict tier one membership cap. We do this for ease of management, and for lower tier costs on tactics and building camps. It also results in a more personal alliance environment. We expect members to be active. If you are gone for a period of more than 14 days without prior arrangements being made with leaders, your spot will become forfeit.
We run an on phase, off phase rotation. We follow this schedule in order to give members time to reincarnate, level, and just decompress. We understand that some members may want to compete in the off phase. We will always have camps for you to work with, but nothing serious. This also leads into the next policy.
Mercing is permitted only in off phases. There will always be temptations out there to entice players to play the role of mercenaries. With past experiences to draw from, we have decided that it is perfectly fine to do so in our off phase. When we are in an on phase though, it is all hands on deck until the end. This makes sure that nobody wastes their materials helping build camps and such, only to lose out on a potential award because of members jumping ship in the last couple days of a phase.
All members can start challenges whenever they are full. This gives us the quickest turnaround on challenges. If there are specific rewards you are trying to get, and are worried because you keep missing out, you can speak to an officer about holding one until your timezone. Generally speaking though, this approach has been working well for us and we plan to keep it as it is.
Tactics are activated by officers. We try and keep ones we will not be using locked, so that points won’t be wastefully dumped into them. If a tactic is full and there is a spot for it to be activated, ask an officer and they will activate it.
We expect chat to be kept respectful. People’s levels of comfort are always going to vary in an open chat format. If topics or language you deem offensive continually pop up in chat and detract from your enjoyment of the game, speak to an officer and they will look into the problem.
We are casual competitive. We keep realistic goals for our current group makeup. We compete for regional and secondary awards. We strive to finish high in a region, and someday take one. We all have lives and other concerns, but do enjoy alliance versus alliance. We are not hardcore, but we do have contacts and outlets for more driven members.
We use the following tools to help us keep in touch, and organised.
We have a private Facebook group that members may join to get up to date information.
www.facebook.com/groups/payingtheironprice/
We also have a forum that we would like members to use as well. We tend to post phase plans and goals, as well as spreadsheets for camp materials there.
